The medieval town of Lalinde (14 km), with its little lake ideal for picnics and lively Thursday market is also worth a visit. Sarlat (44 km) bustling narrow streets and medieval buildings steeped in culture and history, is a must visit for all. The region boasts the world renowned Bergerac appellation wine area which covers 12,700 hectares. Wine has been produced in the region for well over 400 years. Wine enthusiasts will find similar grapes to those found in the Bordeaux region including Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec reds; Sauvignon Blanc, Muscadet whites. Many vineyards welcome visitors and offer tastings. The formal ‘route de vin’ maps out a plan of the vineyards in the area. The river Vézère joins the Dordogne at the lovely village of Limeuil just a few minutes drive from Trémolat. Enclosed between the rivers Vézère and Dordogne (the "golden triangle") is a veritable treasure of prehistoric sites, beautiful caves from, for example, Lascaux with cave paintings, to the Gouffre de Proumeyssac with stalactites in a forty metre high underground cavern.
There is so much in the local area it is almost impossible to know where to start. All age groups are catered for. There are prehistoric sites, troglodyte villages, bastide towns such as Monpazier, Belvès and Villereal. Périgueux and Bergerac are an easy drive.
