There is a restaurant, a self service minimart, hairdressers, aestheticist and a postal agency office within a 2 minute or less walk. The Chateau Optic Centre (formerly the Chateau de Nieuil) with its restaurant, hotel and wellbeing facilities is 1.5 kms away.
Other local shops are in Saint Claud, 3 kms & local towns with supermarkets are Roumazieres Loubert 7kms and Chasseneuil sur Bonnieure 9kms. La Rochefoucauld with a Le Clercs hypermarket is about 15 minutes drive whilst Angoulême (16000), with its hypermarkets is within 35 minutes and Saint Junien (87200) with similar facilities is within 30 minutes.

There is a primary school in the village with intermediate schools and colleges within 10 to 15 minutes drive. (A school bus service operates all year.)
We have found the locals very welcoming to British expats who want to integrate. This was a strong resistance area during the 1939 – 1945 war.

The Charente has a mixed ocean / inland climate and is believed to have the second longest hours of sunshine of all mainland France departments after the Cote d’Azur. The winters are generally mild but severe frosts do occur from time to time.
If rugby football is your game there are local clubs and the S.A. XV a 2nd division team in Soyaux/Angouleme.
The Atlantic coast with its many attractions can be reached within 2 hours drive.

Access
The plot is situated in the quiet village of Nieuil, which is within easy reach of airports – Limoges 40 minutes & Poitiers 75 minutes both with services to the UK. Other airports within a couple of hours are Bordeaux, La Rochelle and Tours.
Access to the channel ports is a comfortable drive via the excellent motorway network. Depending on the chosen port from 4 hours 30 mins (Caen) to 7 hours 30 mins (Dunkirk) driving time - remember to allow for stops.
Angouleme railway station with its high speed rail link to Paris and Lille is less than 40 minutes by car. To go to the UK via Paris means a transfer from Montparnasse station to the Gare du Nord either by metro or taxi. Via Lille it is only a change of platform but it is a more limited service.
