Property Description

Built in 1948, in traditional Breton style, this stone house has a huge adjoining outbuilding which, subject to planning, could be converted into letting accommodation.  It is situated in central Brittany, 3 kms from the local village and an hour from the beaches of both the north and south coasts.

Brittany has long been popular with British buyers, who know that it has its own language, and a long history of traditions and folklore.  It is served by two ferry ports, Roscoff and St Malo.  Roscoff is about an hour’s drive from the property, St Malo, two hours.   Sticking out into the Atlantic, it is somewhat cut off from the rest of France, which is why so much of its history has remained in tact.  It has mile upon mile of coastline, from quiet coves and the pink granite rocks in the north to the more popular and sunny beaches of the south.

The property is nicely presented, with a pretty country style kitchen/breakfast room, sitting/dining room with wood-burning stove, 3 bedrooms and shower room.  One of main features of the house, is the significant outbuilding built alongside. This could be left as is and used for storage, or the new owner might wish to convert the space into holiday letting accommodation. This would require planning consent.  Since the location is quiet, at the end of a lane with only one small cottage nearby, it provides the perfect spot for relaxation, walking and cycling.

There is a rather fascinating tourist attraction nearby, called the Vallee des Saintes.  Built on an historic site, it comprises 50 granite statues, each 3-4 metres high.  They represent the monks who brought Christianity to Brittany.  Year on year new ones are added.

A prospective purchaser will need to know that the house is 3kms from the village of Carnoet (post office, shop, bar and a couple of restaurants) and 12 minutes by car from Carhaix Plouger (more of a town, with a railway station).
