This charming, old stone house is in a beautiful hamlet, about 15 kms from the small town of Uzès, in south-western France.  It is remarkable for its slower pace of life and Mediterranean climate.  It has an attractive terrace with breathtaking views and a delightful courtyard entrance.

There is a ground floor bedroom (34m2), which also has a character fireplace and wood-burning stove.  Alongside is a modern shower room with WC and washbasin.  Given the size of the room we would suggest this is the master suite.  On the same level is a workshop (32m2), bathed in light and opening onto the swimming pool.

A feature stone staircase leads to the large, first floor landing.  This floor has 3 further bedrooms (9m2, 11m2 and 15m2), and a second bathroom with a bath, washbasin and WC.  The tiled terrace (37m2) is on this level.  There is plenty of space for outdoor eating, relaxing and perhaps a spot of sunbathing. The views from the terrace extend right over the surrounding countryside and the hamlet of Castelnau-Valence.

The swimming pool  (5m x 3m) is a real bonus for a village house and would be perfect for a dip at the end of the day.

To get to Uzès by land from the UK can be time consuming – Uzès being about as far south as you can get – but thankfully planes fly regularly into nearby Nîmes airport (45 minutes by car from the house).  Both Uzès and Nîmes have history dating back to the Romans and there are plenty of preserved buildings from this era.  However, Nîmes is not just steeped in the past, but is considered the most modern city in southern France.  It is the capital of the Gard department and has squares, parks, shops, restaurants and bars galore.
