It is a traditional Bastide town, built of honey coloured stone, sitting in the prettiest of Perigordian countryside, surrounded by rivers, woodland, fields and hills. It is tranquil and unspoiled, and doesn’t attract too many tourists so manages to retain its serenity. It may be small but has some useful shops, including a butcher, bakery, and a small general supermarket. A weekly market is held on Saturdays.

The climate is usually excellent in the Dordogne and so there is plenty of sunshine to both enjoy the swimming pool and to tempt visitors out and about. Monpazier is certainly worth a short drive , as is the wine town of Bergerac and the celebrated beauty of Sarlat la Canéda. The region is famed for its food, for truffles, walnuts, mushrooms and duck dishes.
