The house is a in a lovely peaceful spot, but is only 5 minutes by car from St Pierre du Chemin where you’ll find a good range of basic shops, but there are a good range of excellent market towns in the area such as La Châtaigneraie, Pouzauges, L’Absie, Bressuire, Cloulonges-sur-l’Autize, Fontenay-le-Comte





La Châtaigneraie is an historic little town that lies near the border with the Deux-Sèvres and Vendée departments, combining the best of the two departments and their respective regions. Basing yourself in this town gives access to the lively seaside resorts of the Vendée coast, the peaceful rolling countryside of the Bocage, the unique Green Venice waterways and marshes of the Deux-Sèvres, and a multitude of lovely old market towns and heritage sights.





The beautiful market town of Fontenay le Compte is on the doorstep, and a market day visit (Saturday) is highly recommended. The River Vendée has its source close to la Châtaigneraie, and riverside walks are always a delightful activity for sunny days.





Both TGV trains and budget air services will get you from the UK to La Rochelle, Nantes or Poitiers. The ferry port at St.Malo is about a 3hr drive.
