Huelgoat is a very picturesque small town in central Brittany. It sits on the shore of a man-made lake (which appears natural) and on the edge of a magically enchanted forest. It is a popular spot for tourists who take the paths and trails to enjoy the amazing rock formations and sparkling pools.
Every year tourists come to Huelgoat to enjoy the calm and pleasure of the walks in this part of Finistère. Whilst this property could be used as a large family home, it clearly has business potential. Structurally it appears very sound and with its position overlooking the lake it takes a lot of beating.
Entrance to the house is through a large hallway. On one side is the sitting/dining room and on the other the kitchen. The original staircase leads to the upper floors. The sitting room is spacious and light, with an open fireplace, tiled floor and large French doors. The dining area overlooks the lake and there is a door opening onto the garden. A large shed provides plenty of storage space. The kitchen is a good size, well equipped and with lots of worktops. A back door leads to the gravelled garden which is the most perfect spot from which to enjoy the uninterrupted lakeside views. There are even a few steps down to the water’s edge from which it is possible to do some canoeing.
On the first floor there are 2 double bedrooms, both ensuite and a smaller bedroom, facing the lake. There is an additional bathroom with bath and WC.

Back in the 19th century, the lake was built to provide water for the silver and lead mining industries in the area. Those have long since gone but the lake is great for fishing, with carp, pike, perch and tench to be found. The town itself has good amenities, including a weekly market on Thursday mornings, so life is easy and pleasant. There are a number of cafés and restaurants and plenty of crêperies, offering all manner of fillings both savoury and sweet. You can wash them down with a big jug of local Breton cider if you wish!
There are flights from a number of UK airports to Brest which is an hour from Huelgoat by car. The ferry port of Roscoff (from Plymouth) is the same distance and the port of St Malo (from Portsmouth) about 2 hours.
