Property Description

Magnificent 18th Century, 7 Bedroom French Chateau with Outbuildings, Nestling in Nearly 4 Acres of Beautiful Landscaped Gardens with Pool, while Enjoying Countryside Views from its Ideal Location …

Magnificent 18th century, 7 bedroom French Chateau with outbuildings, nestling in nearly 4 acres of beautiful landscaped gardens with pool, while enjoying countryside views from its ideal location near all amenities in the heart of Vauchoux.

This former hunting lodge of King Louis XV has for many years served as a gourmet restaurant. It is full of original elements that make the building so special, full of charm and character.

It is situated 3km from shops and 15km from Vesoul, the Haute-Saone capital city.

It stands on 15,500 m2 of landscaped gardens surrounded by an old stone wall, and has outbuildings, an independent pavilion with swimming pool, changing rooms, summer kitchen and cellar.

On a beautiful paved courtyard, the two guard houses are located on either side of the entrance gate and can serve as individual accommodation. This property offers multiple possibilities, guest rooms, restaurant, family home.

THE CHATEAU: - on the ground floor is a large marble entrance hall with fireplace, original oak staircase and mezzanine, a spacious living and dining room, partly vaulted, wooden floor, marble fireplace, WC and sink, plus a large fitted kitchen.

On the 1st floor is the mezzanine, 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, the large hallway leading to the 2nd floor with a convertible attic with high ceilings.

There are 2 gatekeepers houses offering 3 more bedrooms.

The outbuildings of the castle gives the opportunity to develop more rooms, as there is a large garage, shed, courtyard and garden.

Behind the Chateau, a country lane leads to an extra plot of land (negotiable during the sale) on the edge of the Saone, ideal for building a jetty.

THE HISTORY OF THE CHATEAU: In the 18th century, the castle belonged to Claude-Francois Noirot, knight, colonel in the French army, friend of the Duke of Lorraine Stanislas Leszczynski. The knight was known to have arranged the marriage between King Louis XV and Marie Leszczynska, and the castle would have been their first meeting place on the occasion of a hunting trip.

The "Haute Saone", part of France-Comte, colloquially known as 'Le Grand Est Oublie' has now become "The New Place" to be. And not without good reason. Not only has it, seemingly, been forgotten by Paris but it's never top of the list for the millions of tourists who flock to the French beaches, the Alps or other popular parts of the country, during their holidays.

Over the last 10 - 20 years the local climate has become more Mediterranean but without the Mistral and the oppressive heat more and more common on the Cote D'Azur or the Atlantic. From a traveller's perspective it is a reasonable 5 hour drive from Calais, 3 hours from Luxembourg and with Basel less then 2 hours, it is the nearest international airport with daily flights to the UK.

Les Vosges, the Jura and the Alsace are no more than an hours drive and Dijon, very much the gastronomic capital of France, is just over an hour away.

If you love farm lands and country side, rolling hills and a great deal of culture and history then I really recommend the Haute Saone. It's very much possible that you'll fall in love with this stunning and forgotten little piece of France.
