A Great and Rare Opportunity to Acquire a Unique 10 Bedroom Neo-Gothic Chateau, which is Ideally Nestled in Mirande, in the South West of France. Fully Renovated to an Impeccable Standard and Full …

A great and rare opportunity to acquire a unique 10 bedroom Neo-Gothic Chateau, which is ideally nestled in Mirande, in the South West of France.

Fully renovated to an impeccable standard and full of beautifully original features, this magnificent chateau has 10 spacious bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, 3 shower rooms, salons, music room, vast snooker room and a stunning kitchen, with a total impressive living area of 750m2.

Built in 1257 as a hunting lodge, the chateau's history spans centuries and was lived in for an incredible 500 years by the one family.

Over the centuries the buildings have been renovated and extended. A major extensive renovation and extension was carried out in the mid 19th Century giving the chateau its distinctive Neo-Gothic features of the time.

There is a large square central tower with pepper pot turrets at either side, complemented by a slate and lead roof. There are stone mullioned windows with medieval mottos, castellations, gothic gargoyles and cherubs. Internally the attention to detail has been painstakingly carried out by the current owners over nearly 20 years with ornamental cornices and plaster work, carved timber doors, oak flooring, exquisite marble fireplaces and marble tiling.

Ground floor: main entrance with a stone staircase with large wooden double doors which in turn leads into the main hall and marble mosaic floor, it has an imposing intricately carved double staircase that leads to the first floor. The rear ground floor hallway leads to an apartment that provides a large fitted corner kitchen, dining and living space with a gothic fireplace, exposed beams and terracotta and marble flooring. A grand bedroom with child's room annex has a feature parquet floor, and a stylish luxury marble bathroom. The snooker room has a full-sized table, seating area, a massive renaissance style fireplace and a patterned marble floor. The fully fitted kitchen is stunning with its black and white marble pillars, ornate floor, coffered ceiling, central island unit, and underfloor heating. Double doors lead out to a shady garden pergola and dining area. A secret spiral staircase connects the hall outside the kitchen with access to the first and second floors

First floor: at the top of the magnificent double staircase there is a galleried landing, double doors at either end lead to three bedrooms and bathrooms and the other the main reception rooms. The ornate corridor with gilded frieze leads to 3 bedrooms and bathrooms. The master bedroom with its beautiful antiques has a marble fireplace and its en-suite bathroom and shower. The second bedroom is dual aspect with a Juliet balcony to the front and an en-suite basin and WC. The third bedroom has a four-poster bed and Juliete balcony to the rear. Finally, there is a luxurious spacious family bathroom with slipper bath and separate corner shower cubicle.

To the rear is a comfortable living room with beamed ceiling, oak flooring and a marble fireplace with wood burning stove, and off this room is the library with glass fronted bookcases. It provides a tranquil space with views of the gardens. Double doors from the living room towards the front of the chateau open to the formal dining room. It boasts a decorative plaster ceiling, period wood panelling, ornate marble fireplace, and parquet flooring. A small butler's room is adjacent. Finally, there is a beautiful music room with magnificent chandelier and grand piano, doors opening to the side and reveal another large double stone staircase leading back down to the garden. The ceiling is intricately plastered and the polished wooden floor informally sections the room into two areas, one with an impressive marble fireplace.

Second floor, accessed by the secret spiral staircase or a stone staircase that leads from the first floor, decorated in white, the intricate oak beams revealed, and the oak floors polished. There is an open plan study area and four further large bedrooms, provision has been made for 3 further bathrooms, and there is an attic storage facility. There is a large vaulted room currently used as an artist's studio, a storeroom and a luxurious family bathroom finished in marble. A small staircase leads up to the 3rd floor bedroom.

Other buildings:
Facing the rear of the chateau is the 15 x 6m pool and pool house which is in harmony with its surroundings. The pool is tiled in white and green marble with electric cover, and the surrounding area is paved in stone with ample space for sun seekers. The pool house is approximately 50m2, and the central area is used as a gym/ fitness room. To the rear is a small bar and summer kitchen, ideal for balmy evenings. A small room houses the pump and the filtration equipment etc., and in the other corner a small room with plumbing intended to become a shower/changing room.

At the periphery of the land there is a large open barn suitable for agricultural machinery, wood storage etc. One side has a wall and against this are some glazed bays which currently serve as workshop areas facing the side of the chateau. There is a large double garage and the ruins of a former gothic chapel.

The chateau is approached by a private tree lined driveway, bordered by grass, this opens out on to a large gravel area featuring a spectacular stone fountain. The grounds of just under 1.5 hectares are level and laid mostly to lawn with mature trees, shrubs and borders. The river frontage provides a natural boundary and the trees increase the privacy.

The property is very private and peaceful, but not isolated. It is within easy reach of a pretty market town where a wide range of commerce is available. Larger towns are only a short drive away. The spectacular mountains of Pyrenees again are a short drive away, as are the ski stations. The border to Spain is 40 minutes, Toulouse airport 1h.30, Atlantic coast 1h.40 and the Mediterranean 2h.20

This historical building has been a sanctuary for artists, sculptors and musicians who have found beauty and inspiration in its unique surroundings, and the artistic legacy has undoubtedly left an indelible mark on this extraordinary home.
