Property Description
An amazing opportunity purchase and renovate this beautiful old Moulin on the River Couesnon on the outskirts of the village of Antrain. This Moulin was originally used as a flour mill and still contains all the original workings. It is in need of a complete renovation it could be brought back to life as a working museum or with the right planning permission turned into a unique accommodation.
Approach
A short walk down the hill from the village of Antrain and situated on its own island in the middle of the River Couesnon is this beautiful large stone Moulin. Built in the late 1800's and with local granite stone perfect for renovation.
Entrance
A large granite staircase leads to the front door of the mill. The ground floor consists of four rooms. The first one houses the workings of the water mill, with two other rooms to the rear and right. To the left is the ground floor extension which was used as an office with views of the bridge and river. There are stairs to the first floor and sous-sol.
Sous-Sol
Down the stairs from the ground floor and into the heart of the old mill. This mill not only produced flour but generated its own electricity and in the bottom of the building is the old workings as this was one of the first Moulins to make electricity for the national grid.
First Floor
Up the stairs from the ground floor and onto the wooden flooring of the first floor. This floor is the same size as the ground floor and again has all the original workings of the mill. To the left is more office space and rooms again to the right and rear. At the back of the property is the large silo's and these can only be accessed from the ground floor and third floor.
Second Floor
This floor is again large with all the workings but there are no offices and only has access to the rear storage room. Windows in all directions so lots of natural light.
Grenier
This is a very large room and has access to another large attic space. Here you can see the roof and in places this needs attention as over 100yrs of weather has taken its toll in places but it has wonderful views of the surrounding countryside.
Outbuildings
On the adjoining land over the bridge towards Antrain you have numerours large outbuildings. These have a cement floor and were used as storage for cars which are still there and in need of some TLC. They are fairly waterproof, and you have 3 large silos.
Land
The land behind the outbuildings has not been touched in twenty years and is quite heavily overgrown but once it has been cleared there would be a large area for a garden or more storage.
Overview
A great opportunity to renovate this large French Moulin which has been built with the granite from the surrounding area and is sited on this island that is steeped in History.
Just down the hill from the beautiful village of Antrain which is full of ancient french history and lots of B+B's, restaurants and shops. Thirty minutes from the coast and Mont St.Michel in the distance. Half an hour from St.Malo harbour, one hour from Cherbourg and Caen. Situated close but just far enough away from the A84 which is the life line of the French motorway network.
This could be a wonderful place again.
