You will find the seaside resort of Collioure on the Languedoc coast, just north of Spain and on the 'Vermeille Coast'. Since 673 the town has been a trading port and the village began to develop fully in the 10th century.

Between 1276 and 1344 it was a summer residence for the court of Majorca. Crusaders ranging from the Knights Templars to the Dominicans visited Collioures later in the 13th century. Although Collioure spent a lot a time as a Spanish town, it was French by the mid 17th century, and it was at this time Vauban added to the defences of Collioure.

Collioure started to attract the artistic community, which included the renowned artists Matisse and Derain in the early 20th century.
