The west tower dates from the 18th century, while the main building dates back to the 16th century. The turrets and the Italianate balustraded gallery bear witness to the refinement of the Renaissance. The façade has retained superb red stonework from Collonges-la-Rouge, a rare and precious architectural signature.
Until 1830, the château belonged to the English nobility. Between 1440 and 1500, it passed through several owners before being acquired by the d'Aubusson de la Feuillade family, who retained it for over three centuries. It was then purchased by the De Jouvenel family. Henri de Jouvenel was the husband of the famous writer Colette, who lived there for eleven years and drew inspiration from it for several works, notably 'Le Blé en herbe' (The Ripening Seed).

In 1956, acquired by a family from the Corrèze region, the estate became a prestigious hotel and restaurant, a member of Relais & Châteaux, and has hosted several Michelin-starred chefs.
