Courchevel is the largest ski resort in the 3 Valleys, itself the largest linked ski area in the world. Courchevel is made up of four resorts all named after their altitude in metres. The highest of these is Courchevel 1850, which is a purpose-built resort nearly as famous for the celebrity skiers it attracts as it is for the fabulous skiing. Courchevel 1650 is the next one down and is located slightly west of 1850. Directly below is Courchevel 1550, which is slightly more popular with families than the other two. Finally there is Courchevel 1300 or Le Praz, which is the original Courchevel village and the most traditional. All the resorts offer fantastic skiing at all levels of ability from beginners to expert. Many of the pistes are tree-lined and make for a picturesque resort.
Après ski varies slightly with each resort. A traditional Savoyard and family orientated atmosphere can be found at Le Praz, with the most expensive and exclusive establishments found at the 1850 resort. Courchevel 1650 is becoming more popular with the younger and hip crowd while 1550 strikes a balance between the two. However, all tastes and budgets are more than adequately catered for, and all are easily accessible within the area.
Other places of interest nearby are Bozel, Brides les Bains and Méribel.
The nearest international airports are at Geneva, Lyon, Chambéry and Grenoble. The TGV stops at Moûtiers, which is less than 20 km from le Praz.
