The city has a shop making violins, a shop with hand-made umbrellas, and many other fascinating shops and independent boutiques. The city of Angoulême, 1 hour 15 minutes away, is built on a hilltop with ramparts, and hosts an annual classic car rally where the cars twist and turn their way around the city streets climbing the hillside. The city of Limoges, also 1 hour 15, and famous for its porcelain, has a lovely old centre. There are some great restaurants in and around L'Isle Jourdain. You have three good restaurants a few minutes walk away, and the other side of the river (a 10-minute walk), are three more restaurants. Outside L'Isle Jourdain, the motor racing circuit brings custom to the town, with classic car events, GT and bike/sidecar events.
