Property Description

Overview
Perched on the edge of a perfectly preserved historic village whose roots stretch back as far as the 11th century, this lovely stone house emanates an aura of joy and peace. From the outside, it embodies the image of a country cottage, with its beautifully rendered façade, a tangle of roses along the bordering hedges, and the charming dormer window set in the middle of the roof.
The owner fell in love with the property at first sight and it is only the pull of family that has led her to reluctantly decide that it is time to move.
Gardens
After the feeling of delight at the first sight of this property, we are immediately enchanted by the beautifully groomed ornamental garden with its wavy carefully tended borders full of flowering shrubs.
A lovely bower with a garden seat is framed by flowering shrubs and is an ideal spot to sit and listen to birdsong or watch owls flit across the sky in the evening.
There is also a charming potting shed at the end of the garden where the gardening tools and a stock of firewood are kept.
At the far end of the house a set of stone steps leads up to the side of the house, where a practical gated garden space offers the possibility to park two cars easily.
Two further separate parcels are also included with the sale one holds the septic tank and the other is quite large and has a stone well. Both are grassed over, and the larger parcel also has some mature trees.
The gardens provide a wonderful frame for this attractive house they have been so beautifully nurtured
Ground floor
A stone patio runs the length of the front of the house and there are large paned-glass doors on each side of the façade, as well as a central classic wooden front door which leads to the charming entrance hall. Once we enter, we find a house that is as attractive and welcoming on the inside as it is on the outside.
As it is at heart a typical Gascon residence, there are two main rooms on the ground floor, separated by the hall, which houses the staircase.
In this house, there is also a shower room and separate Wc behind the stairs. These two rooms have both kept their original glazed ceramic tiles in shades of nutmeg and cinnamon which give them a vintage charm.
On the left-hand side of the hall, we find a spacious living room with a large stone fireplace that has been fitted with a wood burner. On the right-hand side of the fireplace there is an original stone wall that forms part of the entrance tower to the village and is a stunning feature of the room. The floors here are also original terracotta and there French doors set in an arched frame that offer lovely views of the gardens.
Kitchen
Opposite the living room we find the kitchen, which is really the heart of the house.
The focus is the huge open stone fireplace that occupies almost all of one wall and provides a cheerful fire in winter months.
The walls are painted in a soft neutral shade of cream and the original terracotta floor tiles have a warm patina of age and tradition.
Along the opposite wall to the fireplace are the fitted kitchen units painted in a soft shade of grey, and there is also an original stone sink in one corner of the room. There is a gas cooktop but no oven.
The kitchen faces the garden and at 32 m² it is big enough to hold a large dining table while maintaining the feeling of space.
Laundry room
Behind the kitchen we find a big laundry room with plenty of space for storage and the furnace, which is oil fired but can be converted to electricity.
First floor
In the front hall there is a wooden staircase with a door on the half landing which opens onto the lane leading up to the village. The owners do not use this door, but it is quite pretty and adds character to the staircase.
There is a spacious landing with a window overlooking the garden.
On one side of the landing there is a suite comprising a bedroom, a large bathroom and separate Wc. The bedroom overlooks the gardens and has lovely, exposed beams painted in a pretty shade of sage green.
The bathroom is pure vintage, and includes a bath, separate shower, a bidet and a gorgeous double handbasin, all in a soft shade of pink. The tiled walls have a matching pattern of little pink roses on a white background.
On the other side of the landing there are two further bedrooms.
The first bedroom faces the garden and has attractive parquet flooring.
The second bedroom on this side also has parquet flooring as well as a large wardrobe that runs the length of one wall. This could be taken out to make a bigger bedroom, but it is very practical to have such a large storage space.
Second floor
Wide landing that has been used as a music room. On each side of the landing there are doors to the attic space, which is very neat. There is a skylight, and these two spaces could be developed by a future owner.
Here at Bliss
There is a lovely environment in the village, as everyone knows and helps each other. There are neighbours from different countries, but they all live in great harmony which is wonderful as the village is quite small.
We just loved this property as it is, but if we were to change anything, we would add an oven in the kitchen and perhaps consider repurposing the entire second floor by opening the attics on both sides of the landing and making one larger living space.
However, the property is so charming that many people, including the present owner, may want to keep it exactly as it is today.
