Cars Most Frequently Stolen in France

Tuesday 16 March 2010

Around 130,000 cars were stolen in France last year, and official figures now show those most at risk.

As in 2008, the Renault Twingo Mk 1 was the car by far and away at the greatest risk of theft in 2009, with 254 per 10,000 stolen. The car has no anti-theft devices installed on it, and since Renault cease production of this model of the car in 2007, it is now sought after for spare parts!

The same problems apply to the Smart Fortwo, which was the most stolen car in 2007.

The first 4X4 in the list is the Audi Q7, having dethroned the Volkwagen Tourneg. Although this vehicle is fitted with anti-theft devices, it is sought after by criminals for resale into Africa and Eastern Europe. It also has the rather unhealthy reputation of serving as one of their popular getaway vehicles!
