Property Description

Situated in the Monts d’Arrées, within easy reach of Brest airport and the Roscoff ferry, this traditional Brittany farmhouse offers spacious accommodation and is ready for immediate use. Ideal for walking and hiking in summer, it would be cosy in winter as it benefits from oil central heating.  

The property is known in French as a “longere”, a traditional farmhouse, built in a rectangular shape and usually 20-30m long.  They are commonly built of local stone or granite, which provides a solid structure.  This one is very typical with a roof of mountain slate.  It is in a charming hamlet, with neighbours, but not overlooked.  It has an enclosed garden of about 700m2 and a cute little stone barn in the grounds.  

It is close to the town of Huelgoat, which has a wide variety of shops, to make life easy and pleasant.  There are restaurants, bars and of course local crêperies!

Entry to the farmhouse is through the conservatory.  It is large enough for a dining table and chairs as well as more comfortable seating.  It’s a great spot for catching the winter sun.  On one side of the entrance is a large sitting room, with exposed stone walls, a beamed ceiling, fireplace and carpeted floor.  To the other side is a bright, newly fitted kitchen/dining room.  The ground floor also has the benefit of a double bedroom, shower room and separate WC.

Stairs to the first floor open onto the spacious landing which is certainly large enough for use as a work space or relaxation area.  There are three double bedrooms + a smaller room suitable as a private study.  All these rooms have velux windows and are fully carpeted.  The bathroom on this floor has a bath tub, washbasin and WC as well as lots of storage space.  

Overall the longère is well decorated and has a very welcoming atmosphere.  Outside there is a small veggie patch and a stone barn used for storage.

When we think of Brittany, we often thinks of seascapes, secluded sandy beaches, cliffs and lighthouses.  Indeed much of it exactly fits this description, but Brittany is not just that.  The Breton Mountain Range (Monts d’Arrées) is a drastic change of landscape from the coast.  These are not mountains by Swiss standards but rather a dream destination for bikers, nature lovers and photographers.  It is a region of moors, ponds, heath and marked trail walks.  It is exciting, mysterious and a land of legends.
