Rhône-Alpes is an eastern region of France composed of eight departments: Ain, Ardèche, Drome, Isère, Loire, Rhone, Savoie and Haute Savoie. The region offers great landscapes thanks to the Alps moutain range within easy reach. This is a wonderful location in winter when temperature is low and slopes practicable. In summer, you can go hiking in the mountain, or do water sports in one of the lakes and the region also borders Switzerland and Italy.
Lyon is the main city of the region in terms of population and economy. Indeed, historically Lyon was an industrial city and thus houses numerous petrochemical industries along the Saone and Rhone Rivers, an area nicknamed the chemistry corridor. After textile industries stopped their activity, Lyon developed in other sectors such as high technology (pharmacy and biotechnology). Lyon is also a lively city thanks to its numerous students who bring dynamism and activities.
