The population of mainland France is set to rise to 70 million by 2050, up from 60.7 million in 2005, according to a recent study by the French national statistics agency, INSEE.

House prices in France rose last year by 7.1%, according to the annual review of the market carried out by the French estate agents professional body, FNAIM. The increase was the lowest for several years and, over the two year period 2005/6, prices have risen at half the rate of the years 2003 and 2004.

A recent study claims that up to 7 million people currently living in towns and cities of France want to relocate to the countryside. Nearly half of those interviewed by IPSOS, the French pollster, expressed a desire to do so within the next few years.

Foreign buyers invested approximately €6 billion in French property during 2005, according to a recent report by ‘Credit Foncier’, the French mortgage specialist. This figure is up from €5.4 billion invested in 2004, and an average of €2 billion invested during the period 1994-2000.
